LinkedIn is a really important professional social network to build your business connections. Unlike Facebook, Instagram and snap chat its more formal and you are not competing with people’s family and friends. Here are some tips to help you maximise your LinkedIn profile
Your LinkedIn profile is like networking online. When people go to your LinkedIn profile for the first time it’s equivalent to when you first meet someone so you want to give a good impression. This means the information needs accurate and up to date:
Your profile
- Your name should be how you would introduce yourself so not Mr or Dr or your job title.
- Your head shot photo should be you not a picture of something. It should be a head and shoulders shot that is welcoming and professional.
- Include an engaging headline that says what you do. Not just Managing Director, something that’s sells you and makes people want to read on.
- Write your summary in the first person so use I and me not he and him. The third person can sound a bit self-important. You have 2000 characters spend time writing quality engaging content that people want to read. Maybe break up the text with white space and sub-headings.
- Complete your career and experience which includes your key skills and provides people with the opportunity to endorsement them.
- Complete your education section, include your qualifications, training, any publications, videos and PDFS of certificates. This really enhances your profile.
All-star
Make sure that on your dashboard there is an all-star symbol which means you have fully completed your profile. If the symbol is a gauge then you have more fields to complete until it changes to an all-star symbol.
Get involved
Then you need to be active like any other social media platform. Connect with people, joins groups, start conversations in those groups, engage with your connections, like, comment and share their posts. Follow interesting company profiles relevant to your industry so you can share beneficial information.
Quality content
Post quality content that your connections will engage with. Share your blogs. Do not over post as this becomes spamming and puts people off. Don’t’ shout about how good you are. Post regular good quality content that people want to read and demonstrate your knowledge and expertise.
