Top writing tips for social media

Some people are natural writers and have a creative flow.  If you find writing a chore here are some pointers you may find helpful. Even if you do not have much experience with some motivation and a few tips you will soon start to write. Creating good quality content is often practice and a few key guidance points

Just start writing

Just write anything, let your fingers type, look at the keyboard not the screen. Do not worry about spelling, grammar or punctation just let your thoughts flow. This is will help you overcome the so-called myth: writer’s block. Work on the corrections once you written down your thoughts. Nothing is correct first time so once everything is on the page go back and format it. Then go back and read it again.

Write from the readers point of you

Not many people do this they tend to write from their point of you. However, putting yourself in your readers shoes and giving them something that will benefit them, you will stand out from your competitors.

Write to a 13-year-old.

By aiming your writing at 13-year-old keeps it simple and you will avoid technical jargon that maybe your audience will not understand and will gloss over.  Write something which is real and has meaning. Your audience will appreciate it.

Make sure every piece has purpose.

Everything you write should have a purpose and make you sure you know what it is before you start to write. Keep the purpose in your mind throughout the piece. Whether it’s an email, newsletter or social media post, be clear on what action you want the reader to take.

Keep short and simple

Everyone finds it’s hard to read long heavy text.  Keep paragraphs and sentence short, break up the text with white space, Use bullet points. Content works better if readers can skim read and understand the message.

Use images with your content

Images enhance your content, break it up the text and make it easier to read. Make sure the images are relevant and ideally not standard stock images
